We start the week in a deep artic freeze that should last through
Wednesday. I seriously doubt anyone north of I-20 will go above
freezing until then. The mountains of North Georgia managed to get an
inch or two of snow out of the current system while most of us only
got a dusting to some flurries. If you feel like you were ripped off
with the meager snowfall, don't go anywhere. This next weekend is
starting to shape up as possibly our first real snowfall of the
season.
Lows tonight might approach the single digits for the Dacula area, we
had a low of 18.1F last night, and I believe we should see around 13
in our area tonight. If the winds go calm, it could go even lower.
There is a slight chance for some freezing rain/sleet at some point on
Wednesday but whatever falls should be short lived.
Upcoming Weekend
Several models are in general agreement (hard to believe this far
out!) that a low pressure area will form near the Gulf coast and trek
east toward South Carolina and up the coast. This places the low in an
ideal position for a snowfall making system for those of us in the
southeast. The complicated part is determining the exact track of the
low and the timing of the cold air support. So while it's too early to
nail anything down, a very, very interesting scenario appears to be
taking shape for the later part of the weekend. I will let you know a
little later in the week how this potential winter weather event is
shaping up.
Stay warm!

Current Dacula and Gwinnett County Weather - Dacula Forecast Discussion
Current Dacula and Gwinnett County Weather - Dacula Forecast Discussion
MODELS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH BRINGING THE NORTH CENTRAL GULF LOW INLAND OVER SOUTHERN ALABAMA AND KEEPING IT JUST TO OUR WEST THROUGH SUNDAY. GFS IS MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH THE MOISTURE AS EVIDENT BY
THE NEARLY 17 INCHES OF RAIN IT PUTS OVER CENTRAL GEORGIA FROM TODAY THROUGH 00Z MON.
FEEL THIS IS A BIT OVER DONE...HOWEVER ALSO FEEL THE NAM IS TOO DRY. SREF SEEMS TO BE A GOOD COMPROMISE AT THIS TIME
WITH 2+ INCHES IN THE SAME PERIOD FROM ATL-MCN-CSG.

Current Dacula and Gwinnett County Weather - Dacula Forecast Discussion
FORECAST LOW TEMPERATURES RUNNING 5-6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL TONIGHT
AND FRIDAY NIGHT. FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES RUNNING 2-8 DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL FRIDAY AND AROUND NORMAL FOR SATURDAY.
Current Dacula and Gwinnett County Weather - Dacula Forecast Discussion
Current Dacula and Gwinnett County Weather - Dacula Forecast Discussion
MAIN CONCERN THIS PERIOD IS INCREASING TROPICAL MOISTURE ACROSS THE
AREA THROUGH SATURDAY WITH REMNANTS OF THE GULF TROPICAL DEPRESSION
MOVING OVER THE SRN STATES. THIS WILL LEAD TO INCREASING CHANCES FOR
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS/STORMS FOR MUCH OF
THE AREA FRIDAY AND NUMEROUS SHOWERS/STORMS FOR SATURDAY.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

AREAS AFFECTED...NRN AND CENTRAL GA/SC/PARTS OF SRN NC
CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 579...
VALID 062059Z - 062200Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 579
CONTINUES.
MID AFTERNOON SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWED A BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM SERN
VA SWWD THROUGH CENTRAL NC INTO THE SC PIEDMONT...AND THEN WNWWD
THROUGH NRN GA TO FAR NRN AL TO NERN MS. REGIONAL RADAR IMAGERY
INDICATED THAT MOST OF THE TSTM ACTIVITY HAS REMAINED CONFINED TO
THE VICINITY OF THIS BOUNDARY AND WITH ACTIVITY THAT HAD DEVELOPED
AND MOVED E/SEWD OFF THE HIGHER TERRAIN IN THE NWRN EXTENT OF WW
579. CONVECTIVE OUTFLOW INTERACTIONS WILL ALSO AID IN NEW TSTM
DEVELOPMENT AS THE AIR MASS ALONG AND S OF THE PRIMARY FRONTAL ZONE
IS MODERATELY-VERY STRONGLY UNSTABLE /MLCAPE 2000-2500+ J PER KG/.
STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL REMAIN THE PRIMARY THREAT THROUGH THE REST OF
THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING GIVEN THE HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT
AIR MASS RESULTING IN WATER LOADING OF DOWNDRAFTS. ALSO...ANY COLD
POOL DEVELOPMENT /E.G. CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER NERN GA INTO FAR WRN
SC WHERE SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE 70S AS COMPARED TO MID 90S
OVER EAST CENTRAL GA AND CENTRAL SC/ SHOULD ENHANCE THE DOWNSTREAM
WIND THREAT.

Slow Weather Week
Not much going on this week with the weather, a persistent pattern is in place giving us a chance of thundershowers each day, with temperatures in the mid 90's. We'll have to see what the next tropical storm (hurricane?) brings us on Saturday or Sunday but I don't believe at this point it will have any effect on us.

Storm Prediction Center Mesoscale Discussion 1285
Storm Prediction Center Mesoscale Discussion 1285: "THESE STORMS ARE
EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE AS DESTABILIZATION CONTINUES ACROSS THE REGION LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THIS SHOULD ALSO HELP SUSTAIN THE CONVECTIVE LINE EWD INTO THE ATLANTA METRO WHERE SFC TEMPS ARE NOW IN THE LOWER 90S F AND LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES ARE STEEP.
SHORT-TERM MODEL FORECASTS GRADUALLY INTENSIFY THE LINE EWD ACROSS NCNTRL GA AND WRN SC WHERE STRONGER INSTABILITY IS LOCATED. FOR THIS REASON...THE WIND DAMAGE THREAT ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONVECTIVE LINE MAY CONTINUE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING WITH AN INCREASING THREAT FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS."

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
464 IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING
Current Dacula Weather - Dacula Forecast
UPDATE...
CURRENT FORECAST APPEARS ON TARGET WITH GOOD CHANCE TO LIKELY POPS
ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS LOOKING LIKE A GOOD POSSIBILITY WITH DAMAGING WINDS BEING THE MAIN THREAT. SPC STILL TARGETING MUCH OF THE AREA IN SLIGHT RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS TODAY
...AND ALREADY TALKING ABOUT A POSSIBLE WATCH.
STAY TUNED.
Hazardous Weather Outlook
THE SHORTWAVE MOVING THROUGH THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TODAY...IN COMBINATION WITH AMPLE MOISTURE ACROSS GEORGIA AND THE TROUGH ALONG THE APPALACHIANS...WILL TRIGGER SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE STATE. INSTABILITY WILL BE FAIRLY HIGH...WITH CAPE VALUES BETWEEN 1500 AND 2000...AND LIFTED INDEX VALUES BETWEEN -4 AND -5. THIS INSTABILITY SHOULD BE HIGH ENOUGH FOR SOME STORMS TO BECOME STRONG...AND A FEW COULD BE SEVERE. DAMAGING WINDS AND CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING WILL BE THE PRIMARY HAZARDS WITH SEVERE STORMS. WITH PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES APPROACHING 2 INCHES...THE ATMOSPHERE IS VERY MOIST...AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AND MINOR FLOODING CAN BE EXPECTED.

Hazardous Weather Outlook - stephenrbrueck@gmail.com - Gmail
A FRONTAL BOUNDARY SITUATED ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA WEAKENED OVERNIGHT... AND WILL DRIFT NORTHWARD TODAY AS SHORTWAVE ENERGY MOVES THROUGH THE TENNESSEE VALLEY.
THE COMBINATION OF THESE FEATURES WILL PROVIDE A FOCUS FOR THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE AREA... ESPECIALLY ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA. INSTABILITY WILL BE FAIRLY HIGH...WITH CAPE VALUES APPROACHING 2500...AND LIFTED INDEX VALUES NEAR -4. ALTHOUGH INSTABILITY SHOULD BE HIGH ENOUGH FOR SOME STORMS TO BECOME STRONG...THEY ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW SEVERE LIMITS. STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND SMALL HAIL ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGER STORMS.
THE ATMOSPHERE IS ALSO VERY MOIST WITH PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES APPROACHING 2 INCHES. LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN WITH MINOR FLOODING CAN BE EXPECTED.

One More Hot Day
After hitting a high of 98.1 degrees yesterday, look for temperatures to cool slightly today as a frontal system approaches from the north.
