We start the week in a deep artic freeze that should last through
Wednesday. I seriously doubt anyone north of I-20 will go above
freezing until then. The mountains of North Georgia managed to get an
inch or two of snow out of the current system while most of us only
got a dusting to some flurries. If you feel like you were ripped off
with the meager snowfall, don't go anywhere. This next weekend is
starting to shape up as possibly our first real snowfall of the
season.
Lows tonight might approach the single digits for the Dacula area, we
had a low of 18.1F last night, and I believe we should see around 13
in our area tonight. If the winds go calm, it could go even lower.
There is a slight chance for some freezing rain/sleet at some point on
Wednesday but whatever falls should be short lived.
Upcoming Weekend
Several models are in general agreement (hard to believe this far
out!) that a low pressure area will form near the Gulf coast and trek
east toward South Carolina and up the coast. This places the low in an
ideal position for a snowfall making system for those of us in the
southeast. The complicated part is determining the exact track of the
low and the timing of the cold air support. So while it's too early to
nail anything down, a very, very interesting scenario appears to be
taking shape for the later part of the weekend. I will let you know a
little later in the week how this potential winter weather event is
shaping up.
Stay warm!
